Hello. Welcome.

Hello and welcome to our blog!

Art Performance Now invites you to join a conversation about dance in visual arts spaces.

We’ll be posting in many forms about performance and place; flagging interesting articles, photos and videos on the topic; inviting guest bloggers to contribute; and refining our questions for Dance Discourse Project #13, co-presented by Dancers’ Group and CounterPULSE.

DDP #13 will take place on September 15, 2012 from 2-4pm at the de Young Museum in San Francisco as part of Monique Jenkinson’s artist residency there. We are thrilled to have Monique, also known as Fauxnique, on our panel discussing these and other questions:

With more public programs and performances taking place within museum and gallery walls, what are the current priorities for presenting dance in this architecture? How can movement function in a space designed for another kind of art and a different mode of looking? How are museums and galleries selecting dance to activate their spaces, and how does dance change when its context comes artistically charged with a particular point of view? How does dance placed in visual arts environments support the trend of the museum as a public gathering place?

We look forward to introducing you to all of the panelists in posts to come.
